I gotcha man and I think it is awesome that you are using "Salvaged Old Growth" which by the way, I DO know what it is - it's what I am using on guitars #3 & #4 - can't wait to see the axe that comes out of that wood - it looks like maple on fire!

I'd look into that if I were you. From what I hear FSC is bull. Nothing to do with stewardship, everything to do with industry and money. I don't have all the details but from what I've heard it's nothing more than a band-aid name and an upcharge.

ya, thats exactly the type of comment that comes from people who do not use FSC woods...

It would be a threat for them to loose customers because they dont use controled wood sources so they try and find similar arguments...

like you say, you dont have all the details... personaly I dont have the choice since most of all the mahogany which is being sold in switzerland is FSC certified...

I buy mine from a huge company - Getaz Romang, you can request anytime that they show you the entire tracability of the wood that you purshase from them and they will immediately provide it to you, so I dont think that its bull at all...

I'm not saying your lumber did not come from salvaged trees, I'm saying that FSC's certification is extremely fishy. Have you at least been to the FSC watch site? http://www.fsc-watch.org/ There is an ever-growing list of documented cases of FSC certified wood later proving to be from illegal sources.

I'm just saying you shouldn't take it for granted. Personally I think most of the wood I've ever seen has some sort of blood on it.

you are confusing the FSC mahogany bodies with the salvaged tops here....

Ok, hufschmidt, psychology lesson aside I admit it's not identical. I just said it was a tele/Carvin STYLE. It is reminiscent of some of Carvin's stylings and treatment of a traditional form, not a copy. Besides, I also said I liked it and never accused ou of ripping anyone off. I play it!

Spalted Maple!




something unique here, this is going to be a really unique short run of neck blanks!

African Afzelia "Doussié" one piece neck! One of the worlds most stable and expensive timbers! The grain is extremely tight! Esthetically very similar to Sapelli "Mahogany" but much more compact and slightly more yellow... Not easy to work with though, tools must be changed quite often! It is also very difficult to find in such perfect quatersawn cut... This is my secret private stock which I have been stacking since 2005, the wood itself has been cut about 25 years ago! I have enough for building 16 necks! This timber has a very high Q, it tap tones exactly like Brazilian Rosewood!

I got this piece of Claro Walnut from OWW.



And the maple top I am using for a 7-string right now has flame, a little spalting, and some burl. It's a nice piece, but I don't have any good pictures yet. That'll have to wait until finishing.
