I remember starting a thread like this a couple of years back.

The 335 body is too large for most people, the semi-hollow 336 is a much more balanced shape and in better proportions. Plus, it's what the customer wants.

wood porn day! I went for an awesome Sapelli Mahogany Hunting day! wow7-eyes

I only purshase FSC certified sapelli for constructing my guitars, so here are some pics of my treasure hunting but also some other pics of the place where I find my wood...

After spending 2 hours looking into some superb mahogany, I all of a sudden noticed this insane ribbon figurine...

This wood was purshased directly from the USA ;)

Also, you dont know the meaning of "salvaged old growth"... ;)

Salvaging provides a good source of ethically-acceptable timber, as it utilizes wood that would otherwise go to waste.

Salvaged timbers come from unwanted, dead or live trees in urban or farm areas.

Salvaging is an excellent way to gain access to varieties of wood that are generally unavailable or ethically-unacceptable when taken from our country's old growth forests.

Timbers from urban sources are often attractive and useful for construction, wood-turning, furniture or craft work.

I see no moral problems here mate because I am using wood which would otherwise go to waist or fire, if I would be ordering woods which was unlegally cut in forests (like 98% of the exotic woods you see on musical instruments), then yeah this would be a problem, I only see your first false based opinion's impression when reading the number "2000"... ;)

I was joking dude - in reference to the "Wood Porn" - that wood is seriously gorgeous. So nice they had to remove it from the US due to "Drool Factors" that were flooding our nation!

I gotcha man and I think it is awesome that you are using "Salvaged Old Growth" which by the way, I DO know what it is - it's what I am using on guitars #3 & #4 - can't wait to see the axe that comes out of that wood - it looks like maple on fire!

ya, thats exactly the type of comment that comes from people who do not use FSC woods...

It would be a threat for them to loose customers because they dont use controled wood sources so they try and find similar arguments...

like you say, you dont have all the details... personaly I dont have the choice since most of all the mahogany which is being sold in switzerland is FSC certified... ;)

I buy mine from a huge company - Getaz Romang, you can request anytime that they show you the entire tracability of the wood that you purshase from them and they will immediately provide it to you, so I dont think that its bull at all... :)

I'm not saying your lumber did not come from salvaged trees, I'm saying that FSC's certification is extremely fishy. Have you at least been to the FSC watch site? http://www.fsc-watch.org/ There is an ever-growing list of documented cases of FSC certified wood later proving to be from illegal sources.

I'm just saying you shouldn't take it for granted. Personally I think most of the wood I've ever seen has some sort of blood on it.
