Just looking at the scarf joint and the depth of my truss rod channel and thinking a volute would not be a bad idea.

Anyone ever glued one in?

I think some pics of your specific situation would help people know how to respond. My hunch about this is that your glued volute will be mostly a cosmetic addition. But I doubt that it would hurt anything. Whether it will actually help, I can't say. So....pictures, please. Let's see what the experts say.

Definitely unconventional. I've never heard of gluing on a volute. But then again, the glue bond is stronger than the wood fiber alone, so I'd imagine that it would be plenty strong.

I did it on a mandolin. Mostly because I liked the look but I think it added strength too.

On violin family instruments, I believe they call the part we are discussing a hand stop. At least that's what they are called on banjos, if that counts...

If you feel like gluing one in, I say go for it!

I'm thinking it should reinforce the 15 degree scarf joint. Looks a little thin there.

Maple is mighty strong wood,
so, IMO it's not needed for reinforcement.
It will probably break though,
because I gave you that advise.

I put the volut on the mosrite neck,their real thin. That's the most comon place for a guitar neck to break if it should fall or get steped on eek .
