After rereading this thread start to finish, you OLF'rs should be ashamed. If you have issues with someone PM them. Tell them off there. If this really is a kid and he's overstayed his welcome, act like the adults your supposed to be and teach rather then scold.

I'm ashamed of you guys, this is caddie eighth grade girl stuff. The high and mighty lashing out, it's just sad.

This is exactly why I don't post very often. This is not your house or your property, your not the boss and the voice of the right. Stop acting like it's your turf and this is some sort of a pi#$ing match.

I hope you see my pervious post. If you all are keen to share then answer his question like I did. Address your design process and thoughts and lay off the attitude. I actually think about the things he asked about quite often and they are valid questions to me. This is a Acoustic builder forum primarily and maybe you just don't think of electric guitar construction issues. But for those of us that do build electrics, successfully, (apparently you guys are too good for electrics) some of his Q's are just as valid and hard hitting to real electric builders as the Titebond vs Hide Glue threads. If your fed up with a guy who's asking too much too often, then PM him to dial it down and don't post this stuff in the thread.

It doesn't matter how many times he posted this, and what other threads he started that asked the uber basic questions, and where else he may have posted it. I realize it's probably merited by what I'm sensing and by the response of those who are responding so poorly... not what I would have expected from a couple of you guys. If you don't have time to answer tactfully, don't. Don't press a button and change your settings to "ignore" him (how juvenile), be a man and just do it like you do with weird Uncle Al at X-mas time... Who's always telling dirty stories in the corner to your grandma and hitting on your little brothers new girlfriend- he's 73 for goodness sakes!

All of you need to apologize, and start acting like men who care about how they sound, get off the computer and out of your heads... and egos; and go make some dust.

Well said, I couldn't agree more.

i guess i am not totally done just yet. i will apologize for my frustration, and if any comments i made were seen as a personal attack i will apologize for that to, that is not the point of being on here, but i'll maintain that it would equally respectful of mathew to go out and spend five minutes on google as it would be for everyone here to tolerate trivial and silly threads and just let them roll off. anyway done now, i dont want to be in the middle of any issues.

How old are you for Pete's sake? I joined this post thinking everyone is nice I'm freaking 16.... here let me 16!!! I spent all my summer looking up mostly other stuff than the location of the bridge and neck pocket. Your probably old enough to be my father and IM the mature one? There's something wrong with that. BY the way guess what an opinion is? JUST THAT. If you hate me then hate me but there's no reason to go off and yelling at a 16 y/o THEN hitting "ignore" By the way don't act like I'm annoying because im not. I'v been trying to calm everyone down and here your going "BUT I CAN ONLY BLOCK HIS POSTS!!!" I don't care how old I am. Just because your on the internet does not give you the right to be a douche to a 16 year old.

By the way you where learning at one point too and don't say you spent years researching first. Whoever you learned off of was most likely annoyed by YOU too because of your level of immaturity but he knew you where a STUDENT AND LEARNING.

Bottom line Dude, you are acting like you have a Hot Date, pull out the condom, unroll it, think it's too long, put it on, finding that it fills with air and breaks. Why because you didn't read the directions or missed that day in Sex Ed. No responsibility for your for your actions, just WANT WANT WANT and NOW. No willingness on your part to help yourself in anyway.

Really, dude you are really a disaster when it comes to people skills. You're a "I want it now attitude" will only get you so far and guess what you are "not entitled", as well as "we don't owe you".

So do us all a favor, GO AWAY and grow up!

MANNERS? none of you seem to have em' your yelling at someone and some of you are probally old enuff to be my dad. SO grow up

by the one of the rules: 1. Be neighborly. The OLF is an inclusive community one in which members show each other mutual respect at all times. This goes for members of all experience levels. New members should respect the skill and experience of those with many years in the craft, and senior members should try to be patient with new members. We want the community to enjoy a harmonious exchange based on mutual respect. Disagreements should always be framed to challenge ideas, not their authors and they should be conducted in a professional and productive manner.

I'v been respectful. You guys are not being patient, AT ALL

Yes, I realize that I don't post here...ever, but I've been lurking just about every day for about 4 years, so I'm familiar with the culture here. With that, let me say this...

The problem here is maturity. Skanks is attempting to be an adult by trying to interact with adults on an adult level. He's saying, "Hey, look at me! I'm just like you guys because i want to build guitars too!" The problem is that his brain isn't fully developed yet. Not bashing here, just stating scientific fact. A teenagers brain lacks crucial development that lets them see things from an adults perspective. He doesn't intend to be annoying, he just doesn't get it. The behavior he's exhibiting is perfectly acceptable among his peers because that's how they all act. They might even think he's quite mature because he's embarking on such an adult venture, and thinking really deep thoughts about stuff (according to that age group). The problem is that, despite his best efforts, he's interacting with adults on a teenage level - which, of course, is just plain annoying to adults.

Skanks, you've gotten some good advice several times in this forum. Here's what you need to do now-- invest. You'll gain a lot of respect by settling down. Don't be all "teenager" and expect answers right now without having invested any of your own time and intelligence to get them. Despite what you say, you've not shown any intention of being serious about building. You've simply shown that you like to talk about the ideas of guitars. The fine people here are busy. They have full time jobs, families, resonsibilities, etc. None of which you have to worry about, so I don't expect you to understand. Your friends would love to sit and chat for hours about things, but the people here simply have to much to do to engage you in meaningless chatter. Get busy doing things, not just talking about them. I think you'll be much better off.

Just some friendly advice.

That exactly illustrates my point, Fillippo. Thanks for that. To the impatient, adolecent mindset, "thinking about doing" is that same as "doing". Judging from his questions, he's no more spent his summer studying a book than I have spent summer on the moon. He probably went to the library or bookstore, glanced through a book, saw some things and left. To a teenager, that's the same thing as spending a summer. The simple fact is that the information in the book required him to "do" something- to spend time on it, absorb it, work it. Those are things that an impatient teenager can't be bothered to do. Again, I understand your post, it's just that adults are communicating on a different level than a 16 year old kid. He REALLY doesn't understand the difference. [headinwall]

Anyway, I just thought I'd up my post count to 6. At this rate, I might hit 20 before I die ;)

Emg single coil htz model, 7.5k ohms, 1 vol, 1 tone, 3 way switch.
Home-made heavy brass bridge, gotoh 510 tuners.
The neck, preferably koa.
The body, anything that is purty that also has a nice sound when thumped,
chambered, thinline, solid, whatever tone or experiment or idea I'm working on.
CTS pots are the best I've tried.
Also, I like to buy parts that are made in America,
not because they sound better,
but because I'm tired of seeing "made in China" on everything for sale in America.

There ain't no accounting for tastes!

There ain't no accounting for naivete other than naivete itself.

skankstro, re read your post in about another 10 or 20 years from now and you may understand the answers you are getting.

if were shifting to my age then lets look at this. Im not exactly the popular kid. So besides hanging out with friends I would spend my down time reading a book (at the time my computer broke mostly) Im an avid reader and I don't like being called a teenager only because of the discredit I get as one. I plan on being a luthier more than anything. Electric guitars are just a start.

I have been doing stuff. Im working on my first build now and have pics up on the forum. I cant always post pics. I do have, however building many instruments. Most I cant even play, but I have a desire to learn about it all. Mandolin, violin, cello, stand up bass, acoustic and electric bass&guitar etc...etc...

Isn't there a way to close threads on here? You guys really upset me. All of you. Some of you are fed up and have decided now to express that, fine, great, let the cycle continue as it has forever, but some of you are being flat out immature. This thread must be closed, and shankstro, you really need to back off before you get kicked off this forum. Put your focus somewhere else and just chill out. My advice, give up thinking about or doing anything about instruments for the rest of the year and see if you still want to do it. I'm 100% certain that if you take a break from here for a few months and come back asking questions that actually challenge the minds and opinions of OLFers they'll have a whole lot more respect for you.

Skankstro, Take no notice of the grumpy old men on here. Some folk need to try and be less patronising. If i have no interest in a topic, i don't contribute, plain as. Too much time on their hands. I can see that you have a massive interest in building and should keep at it. Also, in regards to your heel joint problem (watch this, hey sttelnoj dont mix up threads. we don't like it and this is OUR forum), get some tools on your christmas list and take over the garage/shed. Just make sure you follow the manufacturers safety guidelines VERY carefully. I lost part of my thumbnail with a jointer and it wasn't a very nice lesson. But, lesson learned. Take it easy kidda, and good luck.

Asking 27 stupid questions at once is exactly the same than posting 27 stupid threads.

All your questions can be answered on Google in 60 seconds, or less. Or are just useless "polls".

Personal opinions, tastes and choices are... PERSONAL opinions, tastes and choices.

You can't make polls if you want, but it's not the place here. Or they have to be usefull or interesting, concerning something that haven't been discussed hundred times.

If you want opinion, ask musicians. They'll be your customers, if you become a luthier.

If you need help for building guitars, these are BOOKS, nice tutorials on the internet, luthiery school, etc...

THEN, if you're stuck... you can ask an inteliigent question here, and people will answer.

PLEASE, be respectful for the luthiers that are giving their time for you.

Try to be logic.

I hope you understand, now.

Francis
I agree with you dude.
