I can't believe it was 2016 when Chris Ensor shared this... ...but it was extremely helpful to me at the time, and still the routine I follow to this day (P204 on 60/60 cotton wheels, followed by P175 on dommet flannel wheels).

For sanding, I've been dry sanding up to 1000 using Festool disks on my Festool ETS-125, then buffing following the above routine. I'm pretty interested in all the discussion regarding the Eagle Abrasives Super Assilex, and might get the starter kit from Stew-Mac for my next finish just to try them out. I don't remember exactly which Festool disks I use, but I can look later when I'm home.

The Tolecut Starter Kit - 8-Cut kit is amazing for spot sanding of finish repairs, drop fills, finish runs and nibbs, light scratches . Same abrasive, different backing pad, different method, it's really genius- an amazing product. amazon: https://a.co/d/fFXpLwv

I tried the superassilex and super bufflex (only the first couple grits were needed) on my last guitar and found it phenomenal. I have always preferred dry sanding lacquer so it easier to see the shiny low spots and had been using 3m frecut gold to start and then wet sanding before buffing p205 and w16.

The assilex cut so smoothly and evenly and could be used dry though all the grits. It also didn’t leave any stray scratches to show up during buffing that I would get with my other method. It made the buffing go so much more quickly it was great.

In a month or so I’ll be doing my next guitar so hopefully it is just as good a second experience.
