Hello and happy holidays!
Just wondering what would be the best way to add wood to this neck to finish carving head stock? (I dont want an angled headstock, prefer straight) At the start I thought I could try a scarf joint for the first time so I went ahead and routed the truss rod cavity and roughed out the perimiter. But when i started really looking at scarf joints i realized I should have extended it before any layouts and cutting had been done (i’m not experienced as you can see lol)
I’m wondering if i could add the pieces that i need to complete the headstock by using another type of joint or do a scarf joint but
with the cut face of the neck facing the back of the neck (as shown in one of the pics below)?
Any help is greatly appreciated

I'm not 100% sure what you want to do but since you're not getting responses I'll take a shot at giving a possible answer.

In the area of the headstock it looks like you may be lacking enough thickness to create the offset typical in Fender electric necks.

If that's the case I wouldn't bother with a scarf joint and instead just glue some additional wood to the back of the existing headstock. Side grain to side side grain (or face to face) is stronger and easier than shifting the head lower with some scarf joints and possibly adding wood in the scarf.

Hi rbuddy, I really appreciate your response. That’s exactly what I wanna do, is create an offset like on the fenders. But as shown in the pictures the headstock is missing material and is too short.
I thought about doing what you say, which is to glue the extra material to extend the head stock, but I wasn’t sure if it would be strong enough to hold the pressure of the strings pulling. I’m gonna do what you suggested. It makes it much easier now. Thank you!
