Hi - I have almost finished building my articulated arm router binding jig. Al looks good so far. I am using a PC laminate trimmer 1/4” shank. When it comes to the actual rebat bit, I am finding that my Amanda bit does not project far enough out of the donut. Do others use a collet extender in this situation? Are they safe? I have seen reviews where the shank of the bit bends - is this user error or an issue that is inherent with the set up?

Dave

Maybe a little more information or pictures would help. I had a similar problem when I built my jig to hold the Bosch laminate trimmer, but adapted it by removing the plastic base from the trimmer, which allowed the bit to fall deeper through the donut( by the thickness of the base).

It’s definitely not safe in light of it being a big heavy bit and a skinny 1/4" shank.

I would think that an extension would amplify any runout and perhaps contribute some of its own. But, Barry’s concern tops mine. Don’t do it. Get a longer bit if you have to.
