Hi folks,

I’ve been seeing a lot more of what I would call a mini arm bevel lately. It’s possible this has been around for a while, but lately it shows up a lot on Instagram.

I have the video that Kent Everett did of a full size bevel with the interior reinforcement.

The mini approach looks like it might be just doubled up binding which would also require just a doubled up lining. Here’s a pic I scraped from Instagram.

Anyone done one of these and have a process or tips to share?

Brad, I did what you might call a mini bevel awhile ago. I also learned how by watching Kent's video. He calls it a transitional arm bevel, likely because of the smooth transition from the binding to the bevel. I decided to make this bevel narrower to see what it it would look like. You can take a look at mine to see if you might want do a narrower one. It is a subtle compared to the wider one. I’ve done a wider one too. I think you could make it any width you want…

I’ve also done one using Kent’s process. It’s on a OOO and it’s been my daily player for several years. I really like the bevel.

Steve, am I to understand that you used the same process for the smaller bevel?

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.
