In another thread a lot of people state they are using frisket tape to tape of bridge footprint prior to finishing. Where do you buy and which one? thanks

If you have a local art supply, you could try there.

From the link above:

EXTRA TACK: This strong adhesive is perfect for use on rough surfaces such as boards, glass, plastic, metal, or applications requiring more exact color control.

This concerns me for using it on spruce. Why do people who use this like it? I have never tried it. I seem to remember one comment that it is very thin tape?

I use the extra tack frisket, it works great. after you pull it up be sure to clean the surface really well, it likes to leave a residue behind.

I may be wrong, but "rough surface" is a little relative here. Compared to glass, etc... spruce sanded to 220 is a "rough surface". I haven't noticed much in the way of residue either but I don't keep it on for long either so that could be a difference?
