The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

I like it a lot. I bought mine used, so I didn’t have to struggle with the question of whether it is worth the retail price. But it is the best binding ledge cutting tool I have used, by far, and I have tried just about every type.

I do actually use this tool. I got it a while back from a builder here who sold it to me.
I can say it’s REALLY well made.. like send it into space type stuff ha.
It does adjust easily. You do have to do lots of adjusting and tests to get the channel right before committing to the real thing. You also have ti make sure your surface is parallel to the bench it is mounted on.
But the tower and the self adjusting cutter does work well. Solid jig
