When I first saw it I didn’t like it but the more I go back and look at its growing on me. Wonder what resin would work best for trying your own? You could die the bag prior to resining and have some unique shades to match what your going for.

I would think something like West System epoxy with their extra clear hardener would be perfect. If you look at the first pics on page one of this tread you see that it comes in sheets so it looks like it was compressed some how. You could probably build a simple box like jig out of MDF or something and press it with weights.

Otherwise the stuff was not very expensive but of course it's not customized either. It would as you say probably take colors very well.
