I have a piece of oak molding I made for in front of a door. I decided to treat it like a guitar and fill the grain with Aquacoat and it's nice and level. Now I want a hard finish over it and was thinking wipe on poly. I think the carrier might pull the filler out. Should I be concerned or should I try another waterbased poly instead. If it comes out nice, it may be my next guitar finish. I just want to try different finishes and I hate testing on scrap, wasting my time. Any suggestions for something to pick up on the way home tonight besides more beer?

No problem french polishing shellac over AquaCoat, i.e. it doesn't pull it out of the pores so I wouldn't expect wipe on poly to be an issue as long as it's compatible with the AquaCoat.

I would think that a base seal coat of shellac would make everything work out well. As Steve mentioned shellac will definitely stick to it and it seems to be a universal seal coat.

I should add that I use shellac as a seal coat before and after I use the AquaCoat.

That's what I do too. In fact just started on one yesterday. I always sand back any pore filler to wood but then the little pores are filled with shellac under the filler so that there won't be any color difference and there is that seal.
