Hi- I was gifted this guitar! The top is quite warped and braces are loose. I'm thinking it would be easier to remove the back and repair the top than remove the top and have to remove the neck. I'll be doing what I need to to get it to play but not alter the authenticity. It came with the original case, which is also in bad shape. Anyone have experience with these. Any advice is welcome.

Do you have any experience in guitar repair? This historic guitar is not one to learn on.

Is there binding on the back? Does it need a neck reset?

Do you know the value of this instrument in its current condition and restored condition?

The bridge is non original. Most were made of maple with an ebony cap. I had made a solid ebony one for acustomrt thet worked out well. I can send you the pattern if you like.

Yes I have experience and am a guitar builder.
The early 1900,s L-1's had no binding on the back. I see varying values put on these. More money with the pick guard and case. The case I have is original but pretty destroyed. I am going to restore it the best I can. I don't think I will ever sell it.
The pickguard is missing one of it's clips (broken off). The bridge isn't original but it is from 1920. I do not believe it needs a neck re-set, but I am making a new fretboard. Though I am replacing the fretboard I do have the original fretboard binding.
Many of these are re-finished and look terrific, but I don't think I want to alter the original vintage finish.
I clamped and cleated the cracks in the top and re- glued one of the long braces and the soundhole brace. There's a crack in the back I will cleat.
I am getting the specs and making full size drawings and hope to build a new one at some point. I love the small body size and the woody tone.
