This Bubinga is tough stuff to use for binding, certainly for a wedged Venetian cutaway build.
Even at 1.5 mm x 5.95 mm (~0.60" x 0.235") it's sooo stiff and unwieldy - just didn't want to conform, despite being bent on an iron very closely to shape, using filament tape to pull it in, and rubber bands to help.
This was my second go at binding and purfling, first attempt was butt ugly and had to be routed off .
Ended up clamping and gluing in 6 places going round the "horn" on the back binding.
An inch at a time, using erasers as cauls and allowing time for the glue to set each clamping step pulled things together, and ended up looking reasonable.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

That is a great idea. I buy drafting erasers by the box to make small sanding blocks now I have another use for them

Same here, 20 at a time.
Also got and use for final leveling some really big erasers, the "for big mistakes" ones. Their weight makes them good for this use.
(But I sand mine flat before use as they are uneven)
Got their use as a tip from Grumpy years ago.
