Looks good!

Where’d you get the oak?

I like that body shape a lot. It's looking good. I'm a fan of using bloodwood for binding and it looks great under finish. It looks like you got the neck to match up nicely with the cutaway. What are your plans for the edge at the end of the side in the cutaway?

I have to say I wish I had bound that edge before doing the binding. It this point I’m not EXACTLY sure what I can do.
I suppose I could bind it on the top and side, but it would be a high risk maneuver at this point

Maybe I’ll use krylon and just paint it black haha

Meh I decided why not. Using a sharp chisel I recessed slot for a binding length. I’ll plane it off eleven w the top. At least it will be somewhat of a finished edge.

I missing something here. Why would the back crack from bending? Why are you bending the back?

I like the way you fit the heel cap into the angle of the center section. Nice touch.

No no:) the back wedge was a katalox set. I cracked the side bending the cut away and soni sides the katalox as the back center.

The OAK, cracked for no apparent reason on the back. So I cut the crack out, and inserted the katalox and marched on:)

I might have to borrow that some day if I ever do a three piece back! Right now, I’m working on a cherry guitar with a sapwood centerline. I made a cherry neck with a tapered maple lamination trying to follow the line of the sapwood across the back and all the way up to the peghead. Now I wish I had integrated the heel cap too.

Bryan - That tapered lamination in the neck is very cool, especially in how it extends the same general taper of the sapwood into the neck. Nice! How hard was it to pull that off?

Yeah, I ended up trimming the fretboard width down

It wasn’t hard to pull off but it was a bit of a pain. Part of the issue was that I also have a rosewood arch between the neck shaft and the heel. That meant I had to make a heel block with the same taper and get it all to line up when I glued and clamped it. In the above picture you can see that the heel block is really long. It was easier to make a long tapered block than a short or for some reason. I planed the tapered maple parts matching the taper of the fretboard so the cherry parts are parallel in the final carve. I clamped it all up with wedged cauls then. I had to plane a reference edge so I could plow the truss rod slot with a plow plane. Keeping the center line was just a matter of measuring the maple and dividing by two.

I was lucky that the sapwood section tapered close to the natural neck taper so it made everything easier. The end wedge carries the same effect up to the top. I ended up darkening the maple a bit with coffee carefully brushed on to match the sapwood.
