Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Can't beat that. It's not unusual to get stuff from StewMac here the day after I order.

Yes, but Stewmac -> fedex, -> airport -> transatlantic flight to UK -> clear customs Milton Keynes, England -> local depot Aberdeen (500 miles) -> delivery to me in Inverurie, epic. [:Y:]

It is pretty awesome, how well StewMac understands how to make that happen. It raises the bar for other vendors, that's for sure. I always factor in transit time when I am deciding where to buy an item that multiple vendors carry. StewMac wins my vote a lot of the time, just based on transit time alone.

90% of the time it’s 1-2 days. Comparatively, I ordered a back and side set on the 7th and got it yesterday, the 16th.

I live about 2.5 hour drive from SM’s building. I think the post office must have taken the scenic route. :)

If they get any better at this, we'll be getting stuff before we order it!

A few years ago I ordered a guitar repair vice from Stewmac around 6 pm on a Saturday evening. It was delivered to me by DHL in Tasmania at 10 am on the following Tuesday morning. I still can't believe it. But Covid wasn't slowing things down back then.

I bought stuff from Alaska Specialty Woods, arrived faster than I anticipated, you know COVID and all that.
