Someone got innovative and decided to install a Fender J Bass style bridge onto an acoustic guitar... made out of ebony of course.

Somehow I think something is going to break at some point.

He did it to a plywood guitar to be fair...

It looks like an interesting experiment. Often these things don't sound as bad (or good) as we think they might. When you look at all the different things that have been tried over the years you might be amazed at what has been done. If you google "innovative acoustic guitar bridge design" you will see a number of off beat designs that people use, most of which are overly complicated or don't work as well as traditional designs. Still it is an area that is open to experiment and another place to put your "signature" on an instrument.
I too am curious as to how that guitar sounds with that bridge and how well the brass pieces couple with the rest of the guitar. Adding a wooden "ashtray" cover might improve the aesthetic.

It definitely changes the dynamics of how the top vibrates. Would be real easy to intonate though. I'm not sure I would call that lazy as it looks like it's a lot of work. Misguided maybe though.

In fairness, it is probably no more misguided than a Gibson J200 with a tune-o-matic bridge, and some people love those. I wouldn't want to own a guitar with a bridge like this, so I wouldn't build one like this, but I wouldn't call it crazy until I played it.

It sure makes action and intonation adjustments easy.

No that isn't my handiwork.

Adding a tailpiece, and using a floating bridge (not glued down but movable like banjo bridges) with one of those wooden bridges that have a brass screw allowing you to adjust its action (I don't know the name of it but I've seen them before). The neck angle would have to be adjusted to compensate however. I did this with a 12 string Galiano guitar restoration by the way, but it originally had a tailpiece.

Acoustic guitar bridges are all about the weight. I suspect this weighs considerably more than the Gibson Tune-a-Matic. Good for sustain, but not for volume or tone.

I had to look up the Gibson J200 with a tune-o matic bridge. I have never seen one and didn't know they made such a beast:

If you could replace the metal housing with a lighter weight material (carbon fibre, richlite phenolic, plastic,?) I wonder if it would work better.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.
