I've been researching new spray guns. I have been spraying EM6000 with a cheap hardware store gun and a 5 gallon compressor with mixed results. I want to upgrade my system with a new compressor and new gun. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for some mid priced guns to consider. I'm in Canada so I may have a difficult time finding certain models, but suggestions are welcome! Thanks everyone!

I have Sharpe Finex guns both the jam gun and full sized. Bit around $125 and work fine for me. I don’t spray waterborne though.

I like the Qualspray qS125wB from from Jeff Jewitt's Homestead Finishing http://homesteadfinishingproducts.com/products-we-offer/hvlp-spray-equipment/qualspray-hvlp-guns/. It is a touch-up gun thus a perfect size for a guitar. needs 4 CFM of air at 40 psi, so within range for a lot of big box compressors.

I found a used Devilbiss SRI Pro that is an absolute pleasure to shoot. It's worked well to shoot EM6500 tinted water-borne lacquers this past week. It would likely work better with a larger tip for the tinted lacquer, currently running 1.2.

I've only shot a very little EM6000, and will do more in the coming weeks, but I am very pleased with it. Much nicer atomization and control than the old suction feed DeVilbiss I had used before.

That said, both Jay Lichty and Michael Colbert use much more modest air guns with stellar results. There is little need for a fancy gun when shooting EM6000. I believe both have used <$20 guns from HF or similar.
