After being here for 1 year , we need 1 dry room, We have a 10 by 12 room not in use . We need a dehumidifier that will work at 65 deg F. Any suggestions on makes and models , and what are you using thanks in advance. The avg humidity here in the house is between 50 to 55%. I want to keep this room at 45 % permanently.

I’ve been running the same unit 24-7 for the last 9 years with nothing more than occasional cleaning. My average shop temp is around 60°F. Our current outdoor humidity is 91%. The shop is easily held at 43% RH.

Expensive but worth the money. I’m not having to buy a new one every 2yrs.

I've had a few different brands of consumer models. Frigidaire, LG etc. They have all been fine. I have always found units that have not seen much use at pawn shops, craigslist for $50 with a little searching and waiting.

if your looking for economical and reliable I use the frigidare I have 3 of these
one in my guitar studio 2 in my shop one on each floor.
In the shop I get a lot of dust and just air hose it clean then use windex then water rinse I get about 3 years in heavy dust areas. The studio is clean and has lasted on the 5th year with basic maintenance.

I personally use the Aprilaire 1850f, but I am dehumidifying a larger space (my whole house). You probably will want a smaller model. But don't go too small. Err on the side of buying larger than you think you will need.

My shop is 1200sqft, built in the last 5 years, so it’s pretty tight and well insulated.

The Thermastor Santa Fe. Yes, its pricey, but having the condensate pump means you don't need to empty the bin or have it near the drain -- it'll pump it out. I used to run the hose across the shop and into my utility sink. The Santa Fe is a 100pt unit, but draws the same amps as your typical 40pt unit and generates much less heat, is more efficient, and moves more air.

Update I have 1spare bedroom on s side that stays between 40 to 50 % yr round, but the garage could use a dehumidifier especially in winter when its mild and damp TNX everyone

The OP’s situation doesn’t seem particularly challenging for 10x12’ and moderate ambient temp/humidity — I can’t see any sense spending mega dollars on anything more than “adequate”. Industrial design seems overkill.

My wood storage and go-bar deck share a similar sized space with the hot water cylinder and pressure tanks. The dehum (plumbed to a floor drain) stands alongside a humidifier, both connected to a custom-built humidity controller that maintains 40-44% year round.

In my case, a key selection criterion was that the units could be set « full on », and stay that way after a power failure, leaving the humidity controller to turn them on or off, as required. I find neither machine runs for that long at a stretch. Clean once a year, and forget. If it lasts 5 years, I’m ahead of the game — last dehum went for 8.

Merci Tim dans le canton de l/est. Yes I/m leaning that way, It looks like the spare bedroom will be the assembly area for now. My uninsulated garage and large shop are not worth the effort to dehumidify . IMHO . but the humidity in that room varies little from season to season and the temp is always 65 to 75 DEG, year round
