Besides the obvious practice, and a mature spray technique is there anything to consider when spraying a transparent toner? I keep getting darker lines when I overlap my passes.

Go with a less dense toner and use more coats. You can keep the thickness of these "more coats" thinner by using less lacquer and more thinner.

I read elsewhere on this forum someone suggested spraying as a toner dye and straight thinner onto the seal coat. Using a waterbased lacquer system I feel like this would just run all over the place, am I mistaken?

On a waterbased finish I've mixed the toner in DA and misted many coats for sunburst shading. The sealer and first coats should be flattened before doing it, DAMHIKT. It flashes off pretty fast so the next coats can be done in the same session.

Cool. DA isn't so readily available in Canada, so I haven't bothered trying to track some down, but maybe it will be worth finding.

I did mix up my colour in lacquer to use as the toner, and it worked pretty good when I tested on off cuts, but spraying a guitar body is a lot different than 4" x 18" off cut, and that's where I ran into my streaky issues, although I will say that after it flowed out, dried and took a second coat it looked a lot better. Still some subtle heavy and light spots though. I never did use a sealer on this body, just shot the toner straight onto bare wood, so I may just sand this toner/lacquer back flat, consider that my seal coat and then spray a couple more coats of the toner I mixed but considerably thinned.

Your overlap is incorrect for your fan pattern or your gun isn't set up correct. Have you read my gun set up guide?
