Hello, here a link to some wood I just don’t know sure what it is....it is denser than it looks, also harder than the usual suspects...what are your ideas and suggestions? The pictures are taken with the wood dry and also with some water. The Edding Sharpie permanent marker is just for color reference.

To me it looks like a sapele or other mahogany want-to-be.

Hello, everything from sapeli to khaya or sippo or utile I know quite well.
This stuff is different...much Harder and denser....perhaps some African pear or so....idk

A picture speaks a thousands words as they say and your pictures will help.

The main problem was the blade would drift out of the cut or inwards and not by a little sometimes. Probably down to something I was doing. The band-saw was set up to the best of what I know / have read regarding guides and blade tension. From your pictures it looks like everything is geared so the wood can only move forward with the wheels helping to keep the wood against the fence. Brilliant.

I have made the experience that you can buy machines quite easy all day long these days....sourcing nice billets for resawing is more difficult....at least if you do not want to over pay these pieces. Otherwise it is cheaper and easier to buy just sets from the known vendors and built guitars....

I bought this plank of purpleheart. Cost me about 30 dollars.



I got about 2 sets of back and side out of it. One set was mostly ruined (maybe I can make ukeleles) due to wood defect and the bandsaw not cooperating with me (because I have carbon steel blades of the wrong pitch that dulled on me mid cut).

I made this with it:









I hate using 14 inch bandsaws to resaw but I don't have a choice, no money for bigger bandsaws. Finding wood is not a problem. I can go to the location and personally look at the wood, and if it's suitable I buy it.

For this picture, I sprayed one coat of the topcoat on the build because I am ready to grain fill with epoxy, but my last build has taught me that epoxy does weird things to wood, and in the case of purpleheart it turned it VERY dark. I would very much like for this to not happen so the coat of finish is to protect the wood from reacting with epoxy.

Hello OLF Forum,

has been a while again, but please believe me I am very busy. Repairing / restoration of some Les Pauls, some Amps, some other guitars kept me at the workbench.
Additionaly some change in the heavy machinery room, like a new, used SCM sliding tabel saw, new additional smaller bandsaw (number 3...), planer and new, old thickness planer had or still have to be restaurated.

BUT, some time ago I stumpled over some VERY nice and VERY old boards. There was a yacht building company quite close to me, they went out of business in like the 1980s or so.
And one guy rescued some gorgeous East Indian Rosewood and Ebony boards. Some of them are backing boards from the veneer production back in th 1960ies.
I have never seen such a nice, colorfull, striaght and narrow grown East Indian Rosewood. Also the Makassar Ebony is really nice to look at.
I was able to buy the whole stock.

These days I am cutting the boards to size and will be hopefully soon able to start resawing again...
