Remember when I sanded this hole in the side?

Since it had such wide, sloped shoulders I didn't think a scoop or cutaway would look right so I went with Clay's suggestion of additional binding proud of the side to cover. At the time I couldn't find Manzanita in the woodpile long enough for binding so I used Flamed Maple with Manzanita purfling edges (I pieced them).
Here's the specs:
Sitka top from Alaska Specialty Woods.
Quilted Maple back and sides.
Flamed Maple/Kyana laminated neck.
Flamed Maple binding, body and neck.
Manzanita Burl rosette with natural edge.
Manzanita bridge, fingerboard and peghead veneer.

Sounds big and well balanced. The lower bout is 17". I'm not much of a player anymore so I'll have to find someone who can do it justice.

That's very cool! It reminds me of a similar approach used on the Schneider guitar below. How did you fit the bindings to the sides and then keep them snug against the sides while gluing?

Cool!
I like the live edge purfling ring style rosette. I think it compliments the raised side bindings. I suggested it because of the Weymann guitar originally built for Jimmy Rogers and the copy by John Arnold that was played by Doc Watson.

Fish glue and lots of binding tape and I tacked the miters on the end first with CA.
