In the case of those who fret the fingerboard prior to attaching the fingerboard to the guitar, does anyone install the frets prior to the final dimensioning of the fingerboard and then trimming all to dimension at the same time?

I always complete the final fingerboard dimensions before fretting. I have done both fret after gluing it to the neck and before.

I would think that trying to dimension the fingerboard after fretting would just complicate matters to no end.

I’m not exactly sure how you’d dimension the fb after fret installation, however to answer the question ...
I do the dimensions then do the frets then trim the frets

I have never done that. I imagine the only way would be to use an edge sander.

I have hit the edge of a fretboard on a belt sander to knock off most of the ends of the frets but never to do the final dimensioning. I always take the final little bit off with a file, after which the ends get dressed. F/b has always been dimensioned first - many of my boards are also bound before they are fretted.
