I have read that some use needle files for fret slots. I know nothing about that, but her you go:

The needle files I have that look like those ones have safe edges so they wouldn't work for cutting fret slots. I can't tell from the photo about the ones in the link though.

I have several sets of needle files and I would never attempt to cut fret slots with them. Not only are they a poor choice for the job, but even if they were - it would take far too much time.

I have touched up fret slots with needle files, but cutting is just not the job for a needle file.

Some folks use a needle file to chamfer the fret slots, maybe that's what you're thinking of?

I've used needle files to shape the nut's string slots and as mentioned to slightly chamfer the fingerboard fret slots to help the frets go in easier.

You can get A SET of diamond inexpensive needle files from harbor freight . They work very well
