I have curiously read sound/frequency related threads here on the forum and often found myself unsure of it all.
This little story is really interesting.

It's the dress all over again :)

I could only hear yanny at first. Although that's more of an onomatopoeia for that weird sound, rather than a clearly spoken word.

I couldn't hear laurel at all until I took it in Audacity and gradually increased the pitch. Kind of embarrassing, since I'm usually pretty good at picking out individual instruments from music, and this is basically the same thing. Both are there, but one of them drowns out the other, depending on which frequency range your brain is currently boosting.

This could explain why some guitars sound bad to one person and good to another.
