Hi Everyone,
I wanted to share my latest guitar to head off to its new owner. This one is another of my "Da Vinci" concepts in a body shape I call the "Grand Session". It features a StewMac Torrified Sitka top and Walnut back and sides. The Fretboard and tailpiece are Macassar Ebony and the bridge is Brazilian Rosewood. It has a 12 Fret neck with a cantilevered fretboard so that the only thing that touches the top is the bridge. The entire soundboard is braced in a lattice pattern. The inlay is made from several woods including: Walnut, Koa, Ebony, Myrtle, Maple, and EIRW. It was designed and made by me as well. The entire guitar is sprayed in Nitro Lacquer.

It has an incredible tone that is very open and transparent, but with a boat load of bottom end. The new owner is a finger stylist, and it suits his playing style wonderfully. I appreciate you taking a look!

Work of Art, looks pretty good!

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Beautiful! Do massive sound ports / side sound holes require much structural compensation?

The bear looks 3 dimensional positioned at the heel. Beautiful craftsmanship.

This guitar is unbelievable. May be asking for trade secrets here but do you have a photo of your bracing?

Is the tailpiece in use to transfer some of the tension directly to the sides? Is it possible without when using lattice bracing?

Finally, how thin is the top?

I bet that fretboard inlay was a real bear to do. Ouch, sorry, couldn't resist. That is a real beauty though and I love walnut.

That was a grisly joke, Joe. Almost unbearable.

Seriously, Chris, I aspire to someday attain your level of creativity and design execution.

How do you stabilize the upper bout so with that cantilevered fretboard the neck angle stays stable over time?
