Well I got one:) was a gift so woohoo. I’ve had it sitting around and decided to try it out. Clamps body great. Clamps the neck great, but the tenon is quite a bit wider than the mortis... It’s almost like the tenon template didn’t account for the router bushing (which I also got from lmi)

So here’s the thing. I didn’t swap bushings or router bits in the process so the ratio of mortis size and tenon size should be the same. Therefore the template has to be off? Right?

My cut mortis is 3/4” (.750)
My cut tenon using the same bit and same bushing comes in at 1.04

I know it should be a little wider to allow for tight fit but it seems a LITTLE much .

Advise? Experience?
B

Ok I figured it out.
I used a 3/8 bit. And I was suppose to use a 1/2. The difference made up the discrepancy in the fit between the guide bushing inside and the bit od.

So, just curious did you end up with a tight fit? I ordered the stewmac templates and the Tenon was .050 smaller than the mortise. I called them and they said it was supposed to be like that for some reason. I'm sending it back.

I always ended up with a tenon just a little oversized when using the LMI jig. BTW, I have some templates from LMI that I could give you a good deal on. :)
