Anyone ever intonated one of these? I just got one in for a setup and I've never even heard of one. Anything weird/difficult to watch out for? Upcharge?

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Intonation is straight-forward using a hex wrench and the rearward facing hex head intonation screws - just make sure the instrument is in tune and in the middle of the second tuning zone. The manual covers the process in detail...if the tuning zones are understood, everything else with the Evertune seems to go smoothly. The issues with the bridge are corrosion of the cover and string unit plating and the occasional broken spring. Each string unit is easily replaced, and the cost is reasonable. Evertune technical support is responsive and helpful if the job goes awry.

If you'll have the instrument for more a few hours, it is worth pulling the bridge and separating the string units from the cover/housing to get some insight as to how the device works. We did that when one of the ES-335's came with a broken neck - full disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning, proper re-grease/lubrication, and reassembly.
