Took me a couple of weeks to take a couple thousand photos off $'bucket. They kept trying to block my removing photos by crashing my album every time I removed a page not to mention removing almost every photo I've ever posted on any guitar or mandolin site.

Trying to understand this ---- do you have an ad free account? Where the photos third party linked?

Thanks

Photobucket has changed it's policy. Free accounts no longer have the ability to share your photos on a 3rd party page, like forums etc. The pro accounts have until sometime in 2018 to continue. Then it will cost nearly $400 per year to keepl your photos there and be able to share. They aren't making it easy to move your stuff.

I pay $2.49 per month to get rid of the ads which make all aspects of the service/ program run painfully slow - but now I post to forums and use the other functions problem free.

I USED to have an account that was free. Being on a "fixed income", I refuse to pay for what WAS free just like I won't pay 20bucks a month for Photoshop when I already paid $500 for Photoshop 5 suite years ago.
$'bucket changed the policy, removed my photos from websites, then informed me that they were charging for third party link. While telling me the photos were still mine, they seemingly did 2 things at the same time...email me every day and make it difficult to remove my photos. Even if I wasn't on a fixed income, I wouldn't deal with that kind of "business".
Just glad I got my photos back.

A re-post from an earlier thread...

Mr. Brentrup:

You might opt to use one of the many free photo hosting sites that us other poor people use...no bureaucratic nightmare of a program required, but you may be subjected to a few ads now and then.

Just off the top of my head, here's a few:

o Imgur (20MB image size limit - not sure on max storage, but not an issue thus far)
o Google Photos (unlimited storage for images under 16 MB or taken with a so-called 'smart' phone or point-and-shoot...larger images like a DSLR would have to be resized, but given our restrictions on posted image sizes, likely not a big issue)
o Flickr (1 TB of free storage)
o PostImage (no specific image size or storage restrictions)
o Facebook (no limits...but the usual caveats apply re: the disease of social media)

Also check with your internet provider...they typically provide some free storage which may be available to host images.

Unfortunately, Photobucket's revenue model - of keen interest to those investing their hard-earned cash in that for-profit businesses - was not returning enough in revenue to allow them to continue to give away free services indefinitely. You might look at the services above for - at least for now - free photo hosting, but be prepared to part company when their own ability to donate their services without compensation becomes constrained.

I have Photoshop 5 as well still running on an ancient PC...for software that is over a decade old (2006!!!), it does amazingly well! I finally moved to MacBook Pro and the very nice Apple external monitor running Photoshop Elements ($60)...everything I need from Photoshop or Lightroom, and no monthly fees. The interface is quite similar to Photoshop.

Have just strung up a classical with Engelmann top and Maple BS. I don't have to sell it so have made it cutaway with a 20 inch radius fretboard. The cutaway is wonderful for playing the Villa Lobos Prelude number 1! Dave

I was trying to add images but guess they were too big. Let's try again:

They have come out looking terrible. What is the guidance on putting up images? Can't see anything obvious telling how to do it...?

I prefer to use tapatalk to upload images because the image is uploaded to the tapatalk service and then linked to in the post. The image uploader on the forum is too restrictive in terms of file size.

Your other option is to host them on a photo sharing site and link to them yourself.

On break until it cools off. Way too hot here in VA to work in an un-air conditioned shop for me. I'm a Yankee. Unfortunately not the time to purchase an A/C or fit the monthly bill either.

Every time someone posts a pic of a guitar finished with Tru-Oil I always wonder why I never use the stuff, it looks great! I like the paw too.

Thanks. The dog paw sound port has become my signature feature. A word about this Tru Oil finish. I've used the wipe on process in the past with acceptable results after many, many, coats. Mostly attributable to my lack of experience and talent. A friend picked up a few spray cans for me in Arizona. Can't get it in Calif. I did 5 coats of non waxed shellac prior to spraying the Tru Oil. I was amazed at the evenness of the spray. No dimples. Only one small run where I got too heavy. I block sanded with 320 between 1st and 2nd coats, and synthetic steel wool (000) before the third and final coat. With the wipe on process I end up with a more subdued look. The spray on came out close to a mirror finish. I'm very happy with it. My best results in finishing so far. If you decide to try the spray I recommend getting a different spray tip. The factory supplied one tends to clog a lot. I picked up an assortment pack that has 6 different spray patterns, made for automotive spray paint. Worked great.

Just finished this Maple and Padauk neck-through build.
Wings are hollow, total weight is 6 pounds.
Emg 81 pickup, Schaller 3d bridge, Grover mini tuners.
25.3" scale, 14" fretboard radius.
Poly finish.
The action on this one turned out great.
Dan

That's quite stunning Dan.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Here's a Daniel Friederich inspired guitar in Lutz and Ceylon satinwood. The bridge is EI RW and the sides are doubled up with mahogany. I made a very fancy jig to do the peg head, which came out nice. The finish is shellac on the top and the rest varnish with a top coat of Tru-Oil. Sounds great !

thanks for looking

Nice and I really like technique you used for the relief on the peg head.

This one is in progress. It's Lutz and EIR; the lower bout is 15 1/2". I'm almost ready to hand-buff the FP. Just snapped a couple of pic's with my phone. The back strip, overexposed in the photo, is curly maple.

Now, when a guy says, "Cuban Mahogany", and doesn't bother to show us the 'hog, I have to question his sanity, or something.
I mean, that just isn't right.

Show us the pics...!
