OK... where can I find some 1/2" mahogany or primavera, maybe 5/8" for laminating on the back of a solid body or hollowbody so I can carve it?

Please don't tell me to buy something thick and resaw it. And forget eBay.

You could always plane down a 3/4 board.

I'd like something wide enough to bookmatch if I could.
Local wood sellers around don't cater to instrument makers at all.
It's all lumber for houses.

It's the same here in Scotland. I ended up spending a Saturday traveling to an old mill/wood turning place. He allowed me to have a rake through the old stock and stuff where I found an 8ft x8"x2.5" board of 100yo Brazilian mahogany bliss Really you just gotta go ask.

How about this place.. http://www.woodfinder.com/listings/001541.php
It mentions instrument woods and is in Kansas somewhere. Worth a phone call or visit if it's close enough Chris.

The Chechen is pretty nice and has a similar color to mahogany.
