Is there a minimum volume necessary for the internal volume on a vacuum table? I was looking at the one that Donek has on their web site but I don't want to take up very much of my z axis for the vacuum table. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOrkvPF0pro

I was thinking about creating it with 3 layers of 1/2" mdf with the middle one cutout below the holes in the top sheet.

Mdf may not be air tight enough for use as a vacuum table.
