Very cool! I think you are the only electric in the challenge at this point. Can't wait to see your plans for it. Will this be your first build?

Thanks for the support. This will be my first scratch built guitar. Like many on this page my first build was a "partscaster". So this will be #2 for me.
I've been repairing guitars at a hobbyist level for awhile, so the natural transition was for me to build a guitar. I finished my "partscaster" but didn't really feel like I made a guitar. So I went to a lumber yard and bought 19 bf of mahogany and maple. This OLF thread comes at a perfect time for me. Thanks for the site and the opportunity.

Because you have experience in Electrics and this is an Electric , I am going to count you in the 2nd build category . I will leave it up to the rest of the group as to fairness . We have time and this is simply a projected placement for now. Build away and I am eagerly looking forward to seeing your work . [:Y:]

Hey, Dan, I see that you are just down the road... There is a guy here in Gainesville who sells wood and he has crazy amounts of maple and walnut. Stephen Brown at CAG. He also has lots of very unusual stuff. I see that you have already bought some wood, but keep him in mind next time you start looking.

Thanks for the tip Casey. I'll need to check him out. Sounds like he will be closer to me than the last place I went.

Ok I have all the wood for my build. (I was waiting on fretboard and top) So today I spent my time book matching a redwood top (from Oregon Wild Wood) for this build. I will post pic's soon. African mahogany body with redwood top, maple neck with honduran rosewood fretboard. Tru Oil finish. I'm excited to use the redwood it has great figure.

I email my pics from my iPhone to a photobucket account (they are free) and then when I'm on a computer I post them here. Possibly a solution for you?

Little set back with my build. Glued the top to the body! Then table saw + finger + ER = stitches and pain meds. Could have been worse.

eek Sorry to hear that Dan. Let me guess - left index finger, while ripping? Hopefully it will heal quickly with no permanent damage, and you can get back to your build. :)

Wow! Sorry about your finger. Another reason for me to not get a table saw.

wow7-eyes YOUCH!! Man, sorry to hear about that. I gouged mine with a chisel on this build challenge, but I'm glad it wasn't with anything mechanized. Good to hear that you'll be okay.

So, what kind of pups you going to put in it? What sound are you going for?

It's gonna be a 3 humbucker set up like a Les Paul. As for brand I have not decided yet. I'm really liking what I see from Bare Knuckle Pickups. But not firm on that yet.
Sound wise I would like a really a Les Paul tone. I've always been a fan of the early 60's "black beauty" and the '61 SG with triple pickups.

That's a good looking piece of Hog. That thing is gonna sound killer! If you're wanting that vintage LP tone, Fralin has the "Pure PAF" humbucker.

http://www.fralinpickups.com/humbuckers.asp

They're a little pricey at $130 per, but Fralins get great reviews and I've been very happy with mine.
