Thought about trying one, but how would all of that metal affect the Rythm's(top one) pickups mags?

Also, any preference; single or double action?
And, what's with not having to add a wood strip in-between the fretboard and double-action rod? Is that right?

Here's a recent thread on one way vs. two way rods - you make the call.

As long as the rod isn't too deep in the neck, without a big gap between the top of the rod & the bottom of the fingerboard, you don't need a filler strip.

I like the double-action theory, but, why would the rod NOT pop the fretboard if it's right up against it?

As long as your glue joint is good you should have no problems. Even a lot of single action rods apply pressure directly to the fret board as well, it presses up against the center of the board as it pushes back on the neck at the ends.

If you had a filler strip, the force against the fingerboard would be the same - rod pushes against strip, strip pushes against fingerboard.
