Hi all. I've been somewhat MIA from this forum for a while. I moved, got a new job, stayed a few months (tools stayed behind), quit the job, moved back. Somewhere in the mix, around January, I finished this guitar for a great player from Vermont. He gave me total creative freedom. All he asked for was a Tele with twang that he could use for chicken pickin' on a new bluegrass project. But he also wanted it to have balls. This is what I came up with:

-Body: Ash body with figured Walnut top
-Neck: Mahogany with Brazilian Rosewood fretboard
-Hardware: Graph Tech nut, string retainer, and saddles, Schaller locking tuners, hand-made Wenge pickup ring, Dunlop Strap Locks
-Electronics: Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates humbucker (neck position), Seymour Duncan Vintage Stack (bridge position) wired to 500k Volume, 500k Tone, 5-way Superswitch with Orange Drop 47uf capacitor
-Pickup positions: Neck coils in series, neck coils in parallel, neck series + bridge, neck parallel + bridge, bridge only
-Finish: PPG urethane over Z Poxy pore filler
-Other features: satin finish on neck, tummy carve on back of body, knob and toggle switch placement reversed to make volume swells easier

Neck was premade on this one. Hadn't planned on using a pre-fab, but I happened across a really nice one, already fretted and with tuners for a steal, so I went for it.

I love the look of that Walnut, Gabby. I picked up some Claro Walnut from Goby Walnut and got some very nice pieces. I laminated one set over some Wormy Maple and another over Port Orford Cedar. I hope the finish "pops" it as well as it did on that Tele. The figure is more intense on that Tele than I expect to get.

That looks terrific!

Sooooo....... whats it sound like?

Mahogany neck with a brazilian fretboard wow. I've been firmly in the maple neck camp on strats and tele's, although two of my strats have rosewood fretboards. My tele has a B-bender and weighs a ton I have some really wild looking spalted tupelo I want to use for a couple of bodies, very light weight.

It sounds like what he asked for: a twangy Tele with balls. The superswitch and pickup combinations really took care of that. If someone can explain how I can post a video without first uploading it to YouTube, I'll post it here.

Sounds great, Gabby.
A growling tele!
Anyway, I changed to Firefox,
from Safari,
and with Firefox, I can't play anything from U-tube.
When I use Safari, your vid is in the original first post.
Go figure...
