Hi guys - thanks so much - I have done different types of painting for years, heck, I even painted an aircraft for a movie once (Iron Eagle III). And believe it or not, I have no fear of it, I just LOVE the polyester finishes that Moe puts on guitars....for now..... I am also lacking an area to do this. If I had my own garage, or a shop, shed, etc. I would do it. I have the spray gun, compressor and all the goods and I have been doing quite a bit if finishing on these FretBoxes I have been making (http://www.fretboxes.com But also, I am trying to make some high-end builds right now where I don't want to risk screwing things up. I may do my own finishes down the road if the logistics permit, but for now, if you saw the work this guy does, you would probably agree.

Dude, what is wrong with you You know you coulda just put a few lines on those feathers to indicate detail without scratching in EVERY LAST BARB. Excellent work. That's a lot of lines not to have any major slips! I especially like the abalone one near the end.

And the lines on the strings too But here's a thought that would have been a heck of a lot easier, and pretty cool too... use a light colored but slower growing wood, maybe pecan, and cut the pieces so the grain lines run diagonal to the string, making the twisty lines for free Sort of like radial purfling. On the other hand, this way they have some actual 3 dimensional depth to them.

Oh, and as for the coloring... if you're going for that faux binding effect, then forget everything I said. No amber. But I still say natural center, and fade to black at the edge. But if it must be colored, then blue/turquoise.

Thanks Dennis - yeah, I had some redwood and the grain looked pretty cool from the side - wanted to try the woodburner - it don't look too bad - Yeah, that's Paua Ab at the end and Green ab near the 12th fret - they are funny because they change so much as you are sanding them down - I lucked out and they both had some great colors at the tips.

I have been a pen & ink artist since I been playing guitar - mostly rapidograph on bristol board and was always into the fine line stuff - it's kinda neat I am able to apply this to the guitar making now!
