I have a Line 6 Pod XT Pro....a rack mount processor. Bought it about five years ago. It seemed to lean a little bit toward a metal machine and less toward a juicy jazz sounding thing but recently I bought a software upgrade that took the whole thing to a better level from a tone standpoint. Much better clean tones after the upgrade.

Let me know how that tone sounds to you. This patch is pretty light on effects....slightly driven when I pluck or strum hard and clean when it's quiet. This is what I had hoped the guitar would sound like when I built it....meaning I was worried I'd screw up the tone royally somehow with my choice of woods or construction. But for now...I think tone is 80% the pickups...20% the woods...something like that.

Pickups are Seymour Duncan P-Rails. Humbucker mode on the neck. Single rail on the bridge.

I'm starting on a couple of Port Orford cedar bodies with necks that are also laminated with mostly Port Orford. If wood has more of an effect on tone than I think it should show up in these guitars. Stand by.

Very nice. I find the concept of those pickups very interesting, but hadn't heard any yet.
I love the old P-90's but often wondered if all the new humbucking sized ones came close to the honk of the vintage stuff.

Specialty Forest Products, in the Industrial Park, is bringing in a unit of 10/4 maple that I'm going to get to pick about a hundered board feet from. It's supposed to come on Wed. and I figured I'd bring a few guitars to the meeting if I'm driving in anyway. You know...I used to live right behind that mongolian grill on Sprague and Sullivan. it was somehow easier to get to those meetings then.
