So,
My wife decided to get me some early Christmas gifts and got me the Grizzly 17" band saw http://www.grizzly.com/products/17-Bandsaw-2-HP/G0513 and drum sander http://www.grizzly.com/products/18-1-1-2-HP-Single-Phase-Open-End-Drum-Sander/G0458 - they came in on Monday and I have also had a problem with running extension cords to my shop from the house, so yesterday my friend John came over and we ran 220 box for the saw and I also have 3 new 4-port outlets for the 110 stuff - ran several things at once trying to trip a breaker and it didn't happen - we just finished about a 1/2 hour ago with the wiring :D - also got all the goods I need to build some things on the side and ultimately get back on the guitars - need to re-organize the shop right now - everything is to one side due to getting the electricity going out there.... I also got a bunch of 4" & 2.5" hoses, gates, clamps, etc for the dust collection - things are looking awesome and I even got some wood coming in, including some Koa tomorrow.... yes Marge, I'm in heaven! bliss

wow7-eyes congratulations, I have had my eye on that very band saw for quite some time. O what joys it would bring to have something like that. I get giddy over thinking about just the resaw height, let alone the hp, blade options and table space... enjoy your new treasures [:Y:] hopefully I'll get one one of these days. that might be a few more guitars down the road though.

Ha! Thanks Shad! Yeah man, It was January of this year when I started searching band saws and this one looked like it should fit every one of my needs because I have been dying to do my own resawing - my sis bought me a small skill $99 bandsaw for Christmas last year and I was bummed by the first week - it was better than what I had tho.... just couldn't cut anything thicker than 1/8".... I could, but I would make a sandwich with my free hand while I was waiting. There are people who are reluctant to buying this one only because of the 220 requirements - it DOES run on 110 if you re-wire it, but I heard that it doesn't give you all of the potential power, so now that I have it, it's flippin' awesome - I can't wait to get things going but the shop looks like a bomb went off in there and I need to still hook up all the hoses - I'm seriously just like a kid on Christmas morning right now and feel that the thrill will never go away! My heart goes out to everyone who is still waiting to get the gear they need to get the job done right safely and quickly - we all have those thoughts running as to what will help out the best.... after the 1st guitar gets sold, I get the 14" planer - got a 12.5" one on loan right now that cannot fit my guitar bodies in, but my friend Steve lets me use his shop anytime I need to which is cool - oh yeah, and the drill press - the throat on mine is about 1/16" shy of being able to drill out my bridge stud holes - ain't that a pisser!

Your wife is one sweet, loving, and generous lady. Obviously, you chose well. I think she must feel that she chose equally well. You are blessed, my friend! And so am I!

Guys, guys, guys.... take a number - there's already a waiting line locally for her, that's why most of my friends encourage me to smoke more and not watch my diet. They especially wanted to get in the front of the line when they found out her favorite gift.... not a shopping spree, not diamonds, not a vacation, not a car.... what my wife wants most of all is (besides keeping me happy and letting me play as much guitar as I want)... is....

is........

is........

MULCH!

Yep, you got it, she does all of the yard work, cuz she loves it and she always wants mulch - nothin fancy, the cheapest stuff.

At times I really feel I have won the lotto. :D

Congrats Virgil!

Re-sawing is a trip. It may be easy for some but
there are a lot of tips and suggestions on-line to help...to help
those like me.

Thanks Michael - yeah I been watching allot of vids, reading forums etc on the subject - will probably revisit some of the sites now that I have the goods - I cut through some African Mahogany for my first run with the electrician friend - cut like butter compared to the old one... I just finished cleaning most of the shop and set up all of my dust collection tubing & connections - tomorrow after my guitar students I need to clean up the scrap pile of wood leftover from the crates - my friend john, the electrician even helped me move these 360+ lbs crates in the rain on Monday - it was a mess -it's pretty awesome to have friends that help you with stuff and don't expect anything in return - I hooked him up with some cash and all meals and we had fun - I'm exhausted and can't wait till tomorrow to run this gear - I am probably going to cut into just 1 log of this spalted live oak I got the other day up in Gainesville - that is the stuff to cut - each slice has a new surprise!

Thanks Wud-dee

So I just changed to a 3/4" 3tpi blade, lowered the speed on the bandsaw and got to resaw my first piece of wood (curly maple) - threw them through the planer, then the drum sander, put a radius on 3 fretboards (Rosewood, ebony & maple).... and this is just since lunch! SMOKIN'
