Would like some input for my Killer Whale concept.
Also, I want to make killer whale (black and white) inlays on the rosewood fingerboard.
What material can I use for them ?

You can use White MOP and for the black, you can buy recon stone - they make it in black - it all depends on what color fretboard you are going for. Rescue Pearl company carries recon stone.

If you're going to take it that far I think you should go for a string ray. :)

Looks very cool. How about holly for the white and ebony for the black?

You may want to use something lighter color than rosewood if you want both black and white to show up well. Coccobolo or bocote would work well. Or just a unfinished piece of especially light rosewood.

First of all "Orca" is a great name for the guitar (also the name of a pretty good trance muscian from Israel).
"Shamu"... not as much. Maybe if it was a kids guitar :P
Or it could be the nickname for it, depending if it comes out cute or badass.

Virgil, is Recon stone easy to work with ?
I knew, as the crazy inlay expert you would have something to add to the conversation.
BTW do you make custom inlays for sale ?

I have already got the rosewood FB which was also picked to match the sound I wanted.
It's a really nice piece I got from LMII which has some purple hints.
I might do a white contour around the inlay so the colour doesn't blend.

I need to see the materials infront of me in order to determin what the best corse of action will be.

Hillel

Orca is "taken" as Nik Huber uses it for one of his models.
My first thought was a Victor Wooten, Fodera bass for inspiration, xtra points for Zach providing a nice pic.

"taken" doesn't matter too much since I'm not a world wide musician.
The day I will be, I'll either have to find another name or a good excuse.
