Wow Virgil, those dragon fly wings look so good, I almost forgot how girly the dragonfly was for a moment!!
Seriously, it is amazing! You have way more patience than I do!! I messed up a simple old English style "M" twice and I am sending it out! Still have not sent it though, so if you really are interested in taking on outside work, lets talk.

Hey - thanks so much for your kind words Lars - this is what you get when you give some sandpaper to a compulsive-obsessive! LOL I found out recently that I had a great-uncle from Denmark who was a furniture maker - maybe it's in the blood? :D PS - coincidentally, I have a new student who has his second lesson tonight and he is from Sweden as well - it's a small world, but I wouldn't want to paint it!

Those dragonfly wings look awesome! I loved the dueling dragons build, and I'll be waiting eagerly to see progress on this one.

The only suggestion I have is that you should make your own necks. You would definitely have no trouble with it, and carving the neck was my favorite part of the build I just finished.
Maybe not for this one, since you already have the neck, but definitely for number 3, since it's a commission. That way It's all your own work.

Hey !! thanks man!
Yeah, I finally got back to work on the silver willow today - been busy for the past couple weeks making jigs - I am definitely game for making my own necks, but I have a couple that I still need to use - also need a better band saw than the POS Lowe's Skill saw I currently have - it's good for 1/4" stock only gaah - as soon as I get a good bandsaw, I'll be trying to make my own necks as well...

Hi Roger! Ha! I first spent a few weeks on making the neck pocket jig (will post pics soon!) Also, I been creating the world's LARGEST pile of sawdust (no lie!) I ran into a couple of problems with the neck and have since fixed the problem - it decided to get a back-bow and after a week or so of doing some kung-fu meets ti-chi clamping, it seems to be flat once again. It did this because the cocobolo fingerboard could have had the fret slots widened a bit more before hammering them in there, so this has all been a learning experience - I also began guitars number 3 & 4 while the neck was flattening... glued up, cut up, carved, routed, etc. I have been taking pics along the way of everything, but spending 12 hour days on all of the guitars... pics coming soon!!

OK, so here's some updates...

After gluing up the fb, i put in the frets - I tried using the fret press, but the cocobolo seemed not as forgiving as the rosewood on the Dragons guitar (Meaning much more dense) so after some filing I ended up using a fret hammer to put them in - by the time I got to the end, I felt like I had a much better feel for this...

Image

I made this cast of the neck with some bondo, which is nice to hold the neck into something while I worked on things..

Image

The trussrod slot had been cut into the padauk and I wasn't sure as to whether the pup rings were going to cover up the hole, so I plugged it up here - can ya tell?

Beveling the frets:

My first attempt at a contour top - still have a way to go....

Bondo, James Bondo

laughing6-hehe
Yeah, I noticed people got wiggy when I mentioned that on the Dueling dragons build - I am thinking of building a guitar out of JUST bondo and MDF and use shards of glass and rubber for my inlay work!- that'll knock em dead!
