I did a poop ton of finish sanding today, then went out and wiped it down with naptha to clean out all the pores, got a couple of good pics of what it will look like when I get some finish on it. Will tru-oil give me a super glossy finish?



I do have a couple of spots I just cant get to come out, any suggestions? Or will some pore filler cover this up?

That's gonna look nice! I have used true oil on gunstocks before, and got a pretty high gloss. I imagine, depending how many coats you use, it should do the same on a guitar.
Those spots look like router tear out to me. The only solution i know to them if you're looking at a clear finish is to keep sanding until they're gone. I have a couple of spots like that on the edges of my current build. They're very small, and I'll keep sanding till they're gone. If i were contemplating a solid color rather than a burst I'd have no qualms with filling them and moving on.

I have finished a bass with polymerized tung oil, that is pretty similar to tru-oil. I put many many very thin coats. It help to cure faster, and prevent that some shits stick on the finish. I only sanded once, after 10 coats, and again at the end, after 10 or 15 other coats . Sanded to 2000, and then wiped a finish coat, very thin, and leave it like it. I get a nice gloss without polishing. I'm sure if you buff you could get a nice high gloss.

Well, I got some tru-oil on it tonight, did their sealer/filler followed by 4 coats of tru-oil. I have my heater gently blowing on it right now which is why I was able to get on so many coats in one night. I must say it is looking pretty good. I will let it sit out and cure overnight, and see if it is glossy enough for me tomorrow, and if it isn't I will put on another coat and see where that has me.
I can say that one thing that has helped this finish go on so smoothly is the HOURS I spent sanding this thing. I sanded it all the way up to a 2000 grit paper. It was smooth as glass before I applied this stuff on there
If it's good enough tomorrow night, it's getting polished!

Well, 6 coats of tru-oil and some partial final assembly later, here we are!

I still have to go in and make the cavity cover plate, and spray a shielding paint in there, but for all intents and purposes, it's done! Hope you all enjoy!
