Hi,

I hope this is posted in the right forum... I wanted to show the aromatic red cedar pedal board I made for my father-in-law for Christmas. He's in his late 50s and has played for years, but he's never played with a pedal until I made this and gave it to him (Hugh Lively) on Christmas morning.

I used some decades-old family heirloom cedar that I have, and gave him some of my second-hand and dirt-cheap eBay auction win pedals. I'm disabled and don't have much money, and made this on a budget of under $50 (including the power supply). He exclaimed "WOW!" when he opened it and absorbed what it was. I know it's not all perfect and the holes are kind of rustic, but I made it to look that way... They're country people and they live on a country estate out in the woods here in Southeast Texas, so I made the pedal to match a couple of pieces of furniture in his growing music/play room. The "Lively" decal was made by DecArt Decals' Simon in England, with my ideas and guidance. I'm especially proud of my Wah pedal topper...

I heard from my mother-in-law Christmas night that he was wailing away and saying "Awesome" to himself over and over and over. I hope you all had a nice Christmas!

Carl, all I can say is a job well done. Well, that is not all I can say! laughing6-hehe I happen to love Eastern Red cedar, and you did a great job of using it. I know nothing of pedals, and can barely play a few licks, but I appreciate quality work in any field, and this is quality.

Hey Mike and Mike,

Thanks for the compliments! Red cedar has always been my favorite wood, and the wood on the pedal board came from a cedar chest my dad made my mom in high school wood shop the year I was born (1972)...When they divorced in '92, I somehow ended up with it. It took a beating over the last 40 years and was broken a time or two, so I decided to make some family Christmas gifts out of our heirloom cedar. I've made a Betta aquarium frame for my wife, a peace sign for my Dad, a business sign for my wife, and a cross for my mother-in-law, out of that cedar.

My wife's Dad has been wailing and plucking and grinning away since Saturday! He loves it - I can't wait to finish my guitar and post the photos here. I'd be done by now but my HVLP sprayer had a catastrophic failure and they're sending me another.

Thanks again for the kind words! I LOVE this forum

Wow! That's sweet! And the "Wah pedal topper" really pulls everything together. It would be difficult for me to stomp on that as well. Great job!

Really nice, Carl!
Folks really like getting something made by the gifter.
Hey, I mount my pedals to the board just like you do!
Works good!
