i post alot here but here are pics of the build iv been researching for, so far i only have the body cut out and the cut away is bigger than it seems and i might have to cut it more due to a little guess work for the neck area and a imperfection near the neck area.. personally i like the pattern of the wood (this is made from scratch, I MADE IT FROM A TREE lol it fell in my backyard on my fence.. Its ash that grew in my backyard, idk whats up with the read but i like it!... sadly though if i cant remove minor dings through sanding ill have to paint it white which i'v been thinking of anyways but i hope not!!!

I hope to have a white pickuguard with 3 pots (master volume, tone, tone) to 2 GFS VEH pickups connected to a 3-way switch (combos being neck, neck&bridge, and bridge) the bridge will be a wraparound bridge and it will have a strat jack on top. tell me if you want me to post more pics or not but after this id be taking pics from my woodshop, so that could be a maybe but i only plan to keep the whole rig in woodshop untill all the wood is finalized. Im not ganna risk the pickups and stuff getting stolen.

OH and its going to have a "universal route" or "bathtub" or "pool" pickup route so the acoustic ability is a little better than a regular with the 2 humbuckers routed out. Any other questions? just ask!

EDIT: it may not matter but its a test SILVER WIRE AND SOLDER!!

I am going to disagree with you on the kind of wood. I am 99.99% sure that is Box Elder. I have not seen all lumber, but the red stain is a trait of a fungus or wound coloration in Box Elder.

One of my suppliers is a grower, logger, miller and finishes out with dry kiln, and he told me last year he was in the process of wounding some box elders so the red stain would develop in the growing tree. He does it with fire.

ps please, please don't paint that wood. I can talk you through taking the little dents out. If you haven't tried steaming, now is the time!

i say ash because 3 woodshop teachers and my ex-lumber jacking dad agreed with ash. But who knows! i just hope it sounds good!

If you are talking about the guitar sounding good, well that all depends on who's playing it!

Actually, yes it will sound good if you build it right. You can find Box Elder guitar blanks if you look, and if memory serves me correctly....B/E is of the maple family!

I saw an amp maker that one of his options was a solid gold chassis.
$50,000 add on.
My advice is to stay with what works, and is not really expensive, and branch out from there.
Glad you posted pics of that slab you got there.
It's really nice.
You might try to even out some of the curves.
I'm happy to see you are actually doing something.

Iv been evening it out cuz i dont have the neck yet but i ordered it today

tip for dents, use steam. take a damp rag lay it over the dents and go oever it with your moms iron, it will raise them up most if not all of the way.

i cant bring a iron into wood shop lol but im just gonna sand it out, the dents arnt that bad, i need to plane down in some areas too...

This is not Ash. But it's nice wood, for sur.

Why not take an iron? It works great, and don't have to sand the whole thing down. 'cause you can't sand down only at one place... you want to keep all the thing even and straight.

And like Alan said, try to smooth some curves, and you'll have a better look on this.

update on the neck, got it from guitar fetish. maple neck, rosewood finger board. Doesn't feel cheap but the real test is when i string the lot together

Don't wait till this time to see the quality of the neck. Check out the neck curves, check the frets (are they well straighten, well crowned, well inserted), check out the straightness of the whole neck, the precision and placement of the tuning holes, the nut slut, etc...

Don't worry about the relief now.
Put it together, string it up, and see what's going on.
You can adjust the truss rod,
and hopefully it will play good.
It probably will.
That is an awesome slab you've got there for the body.
I've never seen anything like that.

I bought a neck much like yours for my latest guit. Quality isn't good but it does work. Don't lose that allen wrench they gave you with it and you'll be fine. To set the relief, you just tighten/loosen the rod.

The body looks like Box Elder to me also. I have worked with it for bowls. Mine have not been as fiqured as the picture of the bowl here, but close. The red streaks are great!

Give it time to dry before final dimensioning. If it was a recent cut it is not yet stable and may shrink curl a bit.I would not introduce steam for swelling the dings out until the wood has dried to 10% moisture or below. Be careful of using an amber shellac or oil as it will brown up the white streaks. I find the clear WB finishes allow those white streaks to pop out in addition to the red. Just, please don't paint it white! I'm sure that would be illegal in most states.

I used one of the guitarfetish necks like that on a build of mine. No, it's not of the quality of a lot of others, even Mighty Mite. The nut needs to be replaced, IMHO, and the quality of the frets is not great. But on the plus side, they're all in the right position for the guitar to play in tune. And the neck is thicker, so that you have room to shape it to your preference. The truss rod works fine. After a fret dress and crown and a bone nut it ended up being a very good deal for the amount of cash I had to lay down for it.
But in retrospect, it's not very difficult to build a decent neck, so I doubt that I'll ever purchase another aftermarket neck. Building with aftermarket necks is fine, especially just starting out. But I would encourage you to learn to build them if you continue building guitars. To me, building the neck is one of the most satisfying and rewarding parts to guitar building.

Now with box elder should I use grain filler when i finish it? I was thinking a clear gloss or something related due to the beautiful grain

Could you please tell me how to tell if it has pores?

Not being a smartypants, but use your eyes. Look carefully at it. If it has open pores, fill them.
