Hey,

So, my new main project after the V Guitar that I posted
(http://www.luthiersforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10101&t=22931)

is to rebuild this Fender student body into an awesome electric. I really like it, but there are a few problems:
The top part of the guitar is broken (easily fixable?)
there's a slight spray of white paint on the old finish (is there a way I can get this off without ruining the finish?)

My father started to fit it for a Fender Stratocaster neck and I'm going to finish it and polish that part off. But: should I even bother with this project? Does it look like it's worth it? If it is worth it, what pickup should I get for the single slot? Is there an electronics kit that I could use? I'm mainly an acoustic guy so this electric wiring is all new to me.

Pictures (It will cycle through, give it time)

Fixable yes! But easily fixable? probably not unless you have expierence at this stuff. Since it looks to be missing a piece of the side that would be an issue. But it would be great practice for you if your looking into getting into repair. If it was me i would give it a go. I have no tips to offer but i'm sure others will. Its hard getting an idea of other issue with the cycling photos. hard to get a clear look at the probles...Mike

I don't know much about fender hollow-body's but it does look fixable.
I'd say a nice humbucker and maybe even a nice tailpiece could make for a nice guitar.
I would definitley stay away from the strat neck, it would look alittle out of place, I'd go with a more lp style neck
Best of Luck,
Daniel

Hmm... I hadn't thought about tailpieces. What do they do compared to an average electric guitar bridge? I'd like to install a tailpiece but I don't know how.

The thing about the neck: I carved it out for a fender sized neck (strat). Is there any guitar neck that will look good with this body and fit on a strat neck?

Since this is a hollow body at least thats what i assume you will be limited to a floating type jazz bridge. You will not be able to put a tuneomatic or a hardtail type bridge since most likely there is no center block like a gibson es335. The picture below is just a sample picture from stewart macdonald but this will give you the idea I'm talking about. i showed the bridge and the tail piece. It just rest on top with no glue or screws to hold it in place.

Ooh, I like this idea. I just got a mandolin today, and it has a bridge like that on it. I'm very excited to install that.
