I've just got hold of some American Black Walnut. It's about 5" wide x 1.5" thick in 9' planks. I'm going to use quite a bit of it for laminates, but if anyone wants some, let me know what sizes and I'll give you a price. It's rough sawn at the moment but I can plane it to what you want.
I'm tempted to try it for a fret board too, any thoughts on that?
Probably not much use to anyone in the USA, seeing as that's where it's come from in the first place? And postage would probably be a little on the high side?

I have seen other instruments besides the guitar with walnut fingerboards like dulcimers and some banjos. Some ovation and adamas have them too. I'm not to thrilled with it for fingerboards since it needs to be finished. It won't hold up to well if you don't. Sweat and grime will rot it away after some time. It's not a very rugged wood. It won't take a beating like maple, ebony or rosewood.

The Adamas fretboards are acrylic impregnated and much harder than untreated Walnut.

I remember reading they were treated just didn't remember with what. I would have to wonder if the average luthier could also do this? I see this as maybe something done under some type of high preasure system. I don't think just soaking would work.

You're probably right, but I won't use Acrylic. There's a wood hardener I use sometimes when I'm turning something that's a bit soft, it's quite thin and soaks right in. 2 or 3 coats of that should work. Worth a try anyway.

I'm pretty fond of finishing fretless fingerboards with low V.O.C. water reducible urethane sprayed on and wetsanded after coat 5 for about 20 coats with a cheap airbrush. Roundwound strings barely mark it after years of playing and it really makes the grain pop out at you.
