I just got a 1.25 hp Craftsmen router and table and was wanting to know, what most use for solidbody edges and electronic spaces.

Get the 3/8" diameter and 1/2" diameter x 1/2" cutting depth bits from Stewart MacDonald for routing pickup and control cavities as well as neck pockets. These bits have a ball bearing that goes on the bit shank above the cutting portion of the bit to follow a guide template. Stewart MacDonald and others make special templates for the most popular types of pickups - you'll need some of those too.

Get 3/8" radius and 1/2" radius roundover bits for rounding the edges of the bodies

For some pickup routs you'll want a 1/4" diameter straight bit - run the shaft up against the template instead of a bearing. I also use that same bit for routing out truss rod channels on the router table.

For body edges I almost never use a straight router bit with a template - I've had too many instances of tear-out. Now I just bandsaw close to the line and fair it out on a spindle sander.

Then I'll go to a roundover bit on the router table.

My go-to router was free. I went to Sears to buy a router table, and picked out the one I wanted. It was available in two forms: 1) router table by itself for $99.99, and 2) Router table with router for $99.99. So the router was free.

The most I've ever paid for a router bit is about $30 I think.

I don't use a router to trim the bodies to shape either - I use the same method as Erik - trim to approximate shape on the bandsaw, then clean it up with the oscillating spindle sander.
