so this is my current project in the works, these pictures arent all up to date i have my inlay work all done and the first coats of oil down on the wood. i got the top wood from lmii and its supposed to be redwood but i have never seen redwood this dark before, granted my experience with it is pretty limited but when you wet it down it gets much darker than most walnut and looks more like cocbolo or something, you can see how dark it is in the picture where i am gluing on the body wings. but anyway the topwood, headstock veneer and center stripe are all redwood, and the rest of the instrument is maple. all of the inlay on on the body and headstock is silver wire and it looks much better now that it has oil on it. this was my first experience doing any kind of inlay, with both the wire and the MOP and all in all i think i did a pretty good job for a first shot. its got somewhere in the realm of a 24" scale and im putting emg 81 and 85s in it. with all chrome hardware. i've been much more patient with this one than my prior three and its paid off but its getting hard to keep being patient now that im so close cuase i really cant wait to see it and play it finished, but i am going to school across the state and only get to work on it during the weekends. anyways let me know what you think

i did all the purf stuff by hand, i was scarred to death to try and use a dremle or anything with it cuase the redwood is really brittle and chips out really easy. but anyway i draw it out with pencil first and then go along with a zacto and cut along the line. then i use a combonination of some stewmac engravers chisles, the zacto knife and some homemade chisles to to get the channel right.

That really looks amazing, what kind of goodies are you going to use on that axe?
If you dont mind, could you elaborate on how you made the neck? or help direct me to a post?
I'm a complete beginer so I havent acquired any skills as of yet, but I really like the look of a neck threw.

well... im guessing you will probably never come back and look at this again because the thread is oober old, but i just noticed your comment so im obliged to answer.
this guitar, which is actually now finished, has an emg81 and an 85. and as far as the neck goes, its a three piece laminate of curly maple and cherry, i glue up my blank and leave a good little bit of meat to chew down with the jointer cuase i cant seem to keep them from slipping a little when i glue them up. after that i take it up to my grandpas shop and use the machine mill to route out the channel, i have never used a router but they seem to work fine, then cut it to rough form on the bandsaw and go to work with the files and sand paper.

here she is all finished up, definitely a lot of room for improvement but by far my best build yet.
