Wondering if anyone has done any and what kind of software issues involved.
Could a knife holder like this be modified for holding in a collet?

I had created a colet for my machine, that held a pen. Early on, I used a pen, and was "drawing" with my cnc machine until I felt comfortable with indexing, orientation etc. Worked out very well.

I have a Roland vinyl cutter, and in the instructions, one of the steps involved in the setup, is to make sure that the knife is the right height for the material which is being cut. I am sure part for this setup, is that if cutting to deep, one would need to replace the rollers most often. On a cnc machine, with a sacrificial board, there would not be as much worry. Still, choosing the right height would be good practice, as to extend the life of the blade. In addition, I would think you would need some sort of a method to keep the vinyl flat on the table while cutting (should be easy to do with some tape etc).

I really do not see why, with a careful setup, you would not be able to cut vinyl. I would go for it.

Thanks for you feedback. I was looking at the above and thought it looked a little overpriced.
I build most of my own CNC fixtures, spindle tooling etc. so modifying the one in my first post may not be that difficult.

That is way overpriced. Try http://www.uscutterdirect.com/ that's where I bought my vinyl rig. What are you trying to cut? The holder is just a couple of bearing where the knife slides into and a magnet on top to hold the knife in.

I just want the capability of occasional cutting of thin, perhaps .005", mylar or similar.
Is 45 degree knife angle most commonly used?
Interesting info on the knife holder.
I understand that .010 (.025MM) is the minimum corner radius using conventional programming?
