What is the Rhino command to have dimensions displayed in fractions (as opposed to decimals). For example when I use the Dimension command it shows the body length as 19.13" whereas I'd like it to display 19-1/8".

Sorry for the dumb question.

Anthony, if it's anything like turbocad, I get at it through "properties" then "units / tolerences". Might be something similar.

go to tools>>options, then click on Units under the Document Properties heading, and then click off on "fractional" in the resulting dialog box..

I did just that and it is still displaying Dimension measures in decimal places.

changing the settings in the options should result in changes in previously created dimensions...might be a bug or something?

Dimensions menu, then dimension properties.

Not only is it not showing a fraction, it is not showing the correct decimal equivalent.
Is the software rounding up as to show only 2 decimal places in stead of three or maybe the software is not going to show a weird fraction? How was the dimension entered in the first place?

Are you sure that you're in inches rather than millimeters? The Startup Template allows this type of setting to be changed.
There, I've told you everything I know about Rhino--and it's probably wrong.

I'm not able to display fractional inches in 4.0 either.

Nelson, this is sounding like a bug I have been religiously downloading all of the updates as well. Might be time to contact the folks at Rhino.

Thanks Nelson -- either both of our programs have a bug....or there is something wrong with version 4.0. I will try and get hold of Robert McNeil and see if there is a fix. When did you get Rhino? Good to know you have it so I can stop converting files I send to DXF...etc.

I downloaded the evaluation version of 4.0 last week. Can't let you guys get ahead of me, ya know.
Actually, I've played with Rhino in the past. It's a neat package.
Metric, is that some kind of measurement system?

I can only guess the "Guest" above is that wise acre Nelson. I got a command fix from the folks at Robert McNeel. Here it goes:

Go to “Dimension” pull down, select “Dimension Properties”, select “Dimensions” and and where you see “Default” on the right hand of the screen, select “New”. Back under the “Dimension” folder you will see the new name, click on it and edit it.

When you edit you will see under “Number Format”, three buttons starting with: “Decimal”, “Fractional” and “Feet & Inches”. If you select “Fractional” for example, you can specify the level of “Precision”, i.e. 1 ¼, 1 1/16, 1 1/32 and so on.

Then click on OK and you are go to go.
