This was for a press conference for the remaining American Idols. The assembled press screamed and clapped when he smashed this guitar to pieces. I just shook my head in sorrow...

Maybe he was looking for the kerfs!

Or alternatively, as the proverb goes: "Simon Cowell makes work for Idol hands!"

Thankfully this is one " cringing export" that we Brits have managed to inflict on North America - our Balance of Payments is still in huge deficit though [headinwall]

Relax...it was a new Gibson, and not - as I initially feared - a $400 Epi MasterBilt. I think Gibson makes a model just for this sort of thing.

That would be the Pete Townsend "Signature Model".

Try it some time - it's fun. bliss

By the time I was a sophomore in high school I had quite a pile of junk guitars I'd cannibalized for parts. I bolted various necks and bodies together, cut kerfs in the back side so they would shatter more dramatically, then sold them to kids to smash up in the "Mock Rock" they did at the school.

I've had a few bon fires of scrap guitars since then - boy they go up quick. Used some for target practice with crossbows and blow guns. All sorts of great avenues of stress relief for a shop.

Plus, what does anyone here have to complain about - it only helps to keep us in business.

That sort of thing bugs really me too,
Id be more impressed if they filmed him driving downtown and giving it to some underpriveledged person.... they might even be able to earn some supper with it..
Ive given a few guitars away over the years - thats fun too!
Cheers
Charlie
