I am at the point of needing all the router bits for guitar making , for back splice, rossettes , sound hole , purfling and binding ledges/w bearing set etc etc , what are some good sources for these ? thanks Jody

Hi Jody,
The binding/purfling set from LMI is what I have.They are available in .010 increments.
I really like them.
For general downcut and other shapes, my favourite brand is Whiteside avilable from Woodcraft Supply.

Drill City Bits. They dont have downcut, but they do have fishtail and upcut mills at low prices. I've had good luck with them.

LMI and/or StewMac for binding sets if you don't build a double-lazy-susan setup of some sort, CETDirect.com for inlay end mills, Routerbits.com for whiteside routers of all shapes and sizes.

Anybody know where you can get bits in tiny increments.. .01 increments would probably be ok.

I have tried locally at places that carry Onsrud etc, but they don't seem to want to "bother" with me if I am only buying a couple bits.

Anybody know of a mail order place selling bits like this?

Dude, try http://www.mcmaster.com/. They have everything you can imagine, including bits and end mills in any size you need. In addition, they ship very fast and their website is awesome

I looked at McMaster. I didn't see where you could find bits in .01 ish increments.

Did I search under the wrong thing?

Go to the End Mills section and scroll down to a pulldown menu that says Mill Diameter. They've got em in increments of .001"

Thanks for the link(s)! Excellent prices and selection on tiny end mills. Should work out perfectly for a couple of tasks.

I am scratching my head a little, not on site organization, but on whether to go with coated bits/end mills, or just "plain 'ol vanilla" carbide. Anyone have a feeling one way or the other about:
